Planet Partnerships led the development of the comprehensive green growth and circular economy investment program with the African Development Bank’s (AfDB) Climate Change and Green Growth Department in Algeria, Ethiopia, and Rwanda.

On the basis of detailed policy analysis, investment due diligence, market sounding, and investor matchmaking, we identified entry points for the AfDB to accelerate private investment and blended finance in priority industries across the continent. This informed the subsequent launch of the African Circular Economy Facility (ACEF) by the AfDB to serve as a financing mechanism for identified projects.

Green Economy Policy Assessment

We evaluated the environment for investment in waste management, plastics recycling, light manufacturing, and green buildings. Recommendations for targeted policy and regulatory reform were prepared, and this data informed the pipeline development approach.

Investment Pipeline Development

Following itensive market analysis, we identified 21 investment concepts with local partners for transaction due diligence, ranging from biodegradable packaging plants to sanitary landfills, material recovery facilities, and textiles processing factories.

Pilot Transaction Development

In consultation with the AfDB and country counterparts, we selected six (6) pilot projects for advanced transaction support and subsequent evaluation by the African Circular Economy Fund (ACEF), with a combined estimated investment of US$110 million.

Investment Forum

We designed, coordinated, and managed two large circular economy investment events with panellists from the AfDB, USAID, World Bank, Finnish Innovation Agency, Nestle, and several governments. This included matchmaking sessions with investors and financiers.
