Planet Partnerships advised MCC and Africa50 on the operationalization of the Millennium Impact Infrastructure Accelerator (MIIA) in Africa.

Structured as a regional Project Preparation Facility (PPF) covering 13 countries, MIIA was designed to provide transaction advisory support, capacity building, and catalytic finance for projects with a high development impact (US$5-100 million ticket size). Our team advised on the finalization of MIIA’s investment strategy and provided transaction advisory support to selected pilot projects in agriculture, energy, transport, health, telecommunications, and water.

After critically evaluating the pre-existing business plan for the MIIA facility, our team advised on strategic adjustments to the investment development procedures, including a customized Investment Analysis Toolkit to evaluate pipeline projects.

Following an initial viability screening of 67 pipeline transactions, our team prepared pre-feasibility studies for seven (7) projects in five (5) countries related to health, hydropower, solar mini-grid, transport, and agriculture.

An investment conference was held in mid-2023 where we presented pilot transactions and solicited market feedback on transaction structuring from financial institutions, investors, and developers.

We launched a call for applications from infrastructure investors, EPC firms, value chain businesses, and other organizations, with 37 submissions that were screened for viability and bankability to select pilot projects for further transaction support.
